Why boudoir?

Since starting to get into boudoir I have had many people raise questions as to my interest in it and intent. In the past, boudoir was seen with a very critical eye and in a downright sketchy light. Generally only creepy men with cameras with less than innocent intent were seen doing it, and it was considered borderline pornographic.

However, in recent years it has become more of an art form, and a way of self empowerment. Women (and men) have started using it as a tool to get past their insecurities and see themselves as beautiful.

The saddest thing I hear is when people don't think their attractive enough for a boudoir session.

"I'm too fat" "I'm not curvy enough" "I don't have any good features"

"I'm too skinny"

Well that's fine, because that's not what I'm capturing; I will not capture you in a position that is unflattering to you, I wont put you in outfits that don't fit and I will try my best to bring out that beautiful smile you have hidden behind your insecurities.

My job as a photographer is to make you forget about those insecurities and I love it! Nothing feels better than showing people the images and having them realize that, yes, that is what you look like and you are beautiful! It's as simple as fixing the light or changing the pose, I can't capture something that's not already there.

I have been blessed with so many beautiful and strong women in my life and recently I have had the privilege of shooting a bunch of them and it was a welcome challenge as many of them had never shot boudoir before and I had to figure out on the go how to best represent them. Which lighting would flatter them most, which poses could give the look I was going for etc. It was stressful and confusing at times but over all I feel it has been one of the most rewarding series I have worked on (Second only to my thesis). I got a chance to really get to know my models and connect with them to create some simply stunning images. Each image I think gives a unique look at each of them and gave me a chance to try out new techniques and ideas.

In the coming years I plan on doing more like this and constantly pushing myself to work with more amazing people to create beautiful images.
